BDSM resources
BDSM pup play has its origins in the proud history of the gay leather scene. The exact origin of the community is uncertain but it seems likely to me that in the late 20th century a few leather Sirs decided to punish their boys / slaves by treating them as a dog instead of a human being. Now the problem with that is that is the gay BDSM community being what it is that practice caught on and now members of the pup community greatly outnumber the traditional gay leather community.
It is fantastic to see so many people finding themselves through the pup play community but we don't seem to have inherited the generational knowledge from the leather community. Shockingly, many pups (and furries) are not aware of the pup play community's origins.

A research paper by a UK university where members of the pup play community were interviewed. I would not recommend this to new pups and handlers as this is an outside perspective looking into the community not the community's own voice.
